Welcome to the Even-gen Personal lineage all-Inclusive Collection (EPIC) Project!

The purpose of this project is to celebrate the mind-blowing awesomeness of the people in the even-gen community. Anyone who has ever gone to the Even-gen thread to request an egg from a certain type of pairing knows of this awesomeness. If you ask for anything in the even-gen community, chances are good you will get 5 or more offers within the next page. Every so often one of us feels the need to hug the entire thread and say how fantastic everyone is, which eventually prompted this:

I'd been thinking the same thing for quite a while- we have what may be the best collection of people ever here in this thread and it's a shame we can't all do a project together. But when I saw you say it, something clicked.

 

Here is my idea- y'all tell me if you think it's crazy:

 

We collect a group of 32 people. Each of them breeds a 3rd gen from one of their own projects (if we start with 3rd gen the individual projects will still be recognizable if they're a pattern-based project, which they really wouldn't be if we start with 2nd gens). Most of us already have a 3rd gen of our own for these projects but if not, or we don't want to split up an established couple, we'd need to breed twice. We'd keep the first egg and pass the second one on to someone else on the list. Once you have two 3rd gens (your own and somebody elses) you'd breed them to produce two 4th gens. Again, keep the first one, pass the second one on. And so on until we each had an 8th gen. The patterns of the lineages would be different, they wouldn't all be siblings but they would all have the same original CB ancestors. In order to absolutely avoid inbreeding, we'd have to choose 3rd gens that had all their grandparents on our own scrolls. Beyond that, it would be simple to avoid inbreeding as we're all passing eggs around by assigning everyone the person they need to pass to in each generation. Or, if we wanted to be less rigid than that, we could assign a group of people that another group of people could potentially pass to. It would be very easy. I can make up a chart if people are interested in trying this. I think it would be fun, myself. Anybody else want to do a project together?

The answer was a rapid and resounding "YES"- within three hours, 20 people had joined the project and in less than 12 hours the list had outgrown the original idea of 32 people. 4 days and 21 pages later, we are 78 people strong, looking at making a 10th gen, and moving into our very own thread. The numbers have been expanded as interest grew but the concept remains the same as the quote above. We are trying to get as many people's personal even gen projects collected together as we can, so if you have a project you've been working on that you'd like to include, feel free to join us! 1. What's this all about?

We want to celebrate the awesomeness of the Even Gen Community with an EPIC Even 10th Gen Dragon (for everyone) that includes all the fantastic lineages of all the awesome Even Gen breeders.

• 1a. You're mad!

  No, we aren't. We're just really organized and dedicated

• 1b. Isn't that going to take a really long time?

  Yes, it is. Even cooperatively, breeding even gens is time consuming and with the number of breeders in this project we will inevitably have some picky stubborn dragons holding up the works occasionally. We have a lot of fun here, but there's no getting around the fact that this project requires a significant long term commitment. We think it's worth it though!

• 1c. How will you do that?

  Read further and we'll tell you.

Awesome! Please post in the thread that you want to join. Please add your timezone too (for easier trading coordination). You'll receive a PM from one of the Mods once you're accepted.

• 2a. I didn't receive a PM yet!

  Patience, Grasshopper! Mods have a real life too (for real?) and sometimes nobody is around right away.

• 2b. Who are the mods?

  Mods are Kelverathewinged (our Fearless Leader), Souly, Caitrona_juno, JaneMcAsh and DragonLily.

  Beside that we've our two faithful Recordkeepers PonyTales and Kirjava-Kitsune who help us with updating the EPIC Spreadsheet.

  • 2b1. EPIC Spreadsheet?

    It's a nifty little Google Spreadsheet that helps the members and mods to keep track of everything. You can find it here

You need the ability to breed Even Gen 3rd Gens of any dragon that will breed freely outside its own species (so please no Drakes, Pygmies, Pumpkins, or Splits). Preferably with all the Grandparents (CBs) on your own scroll.

• 3a. What do I do when not all the CBs are on my scroll?

  Get in contact with the owner of the CBs and make sure that no other offspring of them is used in the lineage

• 3b. But I've got AP catches D:

  Please use different ones then. We want to avoid inbreeding. And the easiest way to do that when we have so many lineages to keep track of is when everyone uses CBs all from their own scroll.

• 3c. But I REALLY want to use a dragon that was an AP catch!

  If you have a very special 2nd gen dragon (perhaps your first ever dragon, or the inspiration for your first ever lineage project) that you really want to use, but you don't know who owns the parents, you may still use it if both your dragon's parents have NO other adult offspring. So, if your dragon is an only child, or the only siblings were frozen as hatchlings, or turned into Vampires, or are still growing up, you may use that dragon. If your dragon has any adult full or half siblings, please pick a different dragon to use. If you feel very strongly about using that particular dragon in spite of it having adult siblings, PM a mod and we can discuss it. No promises though.

If you already have a 3rd gen from your chosen lineage, please use the RED New Egg Report form to let us know the lineage you've chosen. If you don't already have one, first breed a 3rd Gen for yourself. Then breed a 3rd Gen to pass on. Whenever you successfully breed an egg (doesn't matter if it is for yourself or to trade) please use that same RED form and post it in the thread.

• 4a. Does the 3rd gen I pass on have to be related to the one I keep?

  Yes. As a matter of fact, both 3rd gens need to be FULL SIBLINGS (aka, have the same parents). The idea is, at the end of the project, we'll each have a 10th gen dragon with the same CB ancestors as everyone else.

• 4b. So how do I know who to pass the egg to?

  When you joined you were sorted into a Team of four people (e.g. Denim or Indigo). These are your Team mates and one of them will be your first trade partner.

  Once you're ready to breed a 3rd Gen to pass on, get in contact with a member of your Team who hasn't already traded with anyone. If you're not sure who to trade with, your Team Captain (or a mod if you don't have a Captain yet) can help you. Your trading partner will get an egg from you, and you'll get an egg from them (not necessarily at the same time). After every successful transfer please use the BLUE Transfer Form to let us know in the thread.

• 4c. I'm contacting my trade partner but (s)he doesn't answer.
  • 1. Don't panic!
  • 2. Wait, give them a chance to reply.
  • 3. If they don't respond to PM within two days, send a second PM and try email as well.
  • 4. If they don't have email enabled, contact your Team Captain and ask them to email your missing team member.
  • 5. If you don't have a Team Captain yet, get in contact with the other members of your Team (the ones who aren't MIA) and pick one.
  • 6. If they don't respond within two weeks from the date the first PM was sent they will be declared inactive. Your Team Captain (or you if you don't have one yet) should contact a mod requesting a replacement team member. Inactives will be placed on a Holding List.
  • 7. Don't Panic!
  4c1. What's a Team Captain?

  A Team Captain is the link between you, your team and the mods. It's the Captain's responsibility to keep track of the team's progress and keep in contact with every member of the team. You'll need to give him/her your email and/or IM info in case someday you're the one who can't get on the forums for a while and your Captain needs an alternate means of contacting you.

• 4d. My Team isn't full yet. D:

  Make advertisements to get more people to join! Though, as long as there is another member in your Team you can already start trading 3rd Gens. Hopefully once you both have your 4th Gen, others will have joined to complete your team.

• 4e. But what if nobody else signs up?

  If we have no new sign-ups for a week, we'll close the project and ask members to contribute a second 3rd gen lineage until we have enough to fill up the rest of the teams. Once all the teams are full, we'll have enough 3rd gens to make a 10th gen for everybody!

• 4f. I've been chosen as Team Captain/ I don't have a Team Captian yet. Who do I contact if I have a problem?

  If you need to talk to someone in charge for any reason, either post in the thread, or PM the EPIC account (aka, hit the button at the bottom of this post that says PM). If it's about another project member, and not just something to do with you or your scroll, it's probably best to PM, rather than posting in the thread.

Congrats! Now you can breed 4th Gens. Again one for yourself and one for your trading partner.

• 5a. The same trading partner I traded eggs with before?

  NO! Now that you have a 4th Gen you need to get in contact with one of the other half of your team and trade with her/him.

  For example: Every Team has four Members. Member 1, 2, 3 and 4. Now, 1 and 2 have traded 3rd Gens so they're the first half. The second half are 3 and 4. Now Member 1 has a nifty 4th Gen Egg sitting on his/her scroll for trading. (S)he will get in contact with Member 3 or 4 to trade 4th gens and Member 2 will trade with the other one. Once both those trades go through, everyone on your team will be able to breed ""cousin"" 5th gens that all have the same CB ancestors.

• 5b. Wut??

  Still confused? Perhaps you should PM one of the moderators and let them help you one on one.

Despair not! Our Fearless Leader has a plan!

Once all the Team trading is done and everyone can breed 5th Gens (from this team) Kelvera (or in case real life gets ahold of her [oh noes! D:] then one of the remaining mods) will assign your Team another Team to trade with.

The assignment of Teams will be based on how quick your team is and how quick other teams are. So, if your Team is really quick and the first one to finish all your 4th gen trading, you'll be assigned to trade with the team that finishes next.

• 6a. How does the trading work then?

  Now, every Teammember will trade once (only once!) with the other Team. Again, there is a neat little picture for it.

  

Breath taking, right? But it will get even better! Now that your Team has all the 5th Gen trading completed, you'll move on to 6th Gen trading. Again Kelvera or one of the mods will assign you a new team to trade with. Trading 6th gens works exactly like trading 5th gens. Easy, right?

8. We'll get Teams assigned till we reach 10th Gen?

Exactly! Please don't choose Teams to trade with on your own because it will only confuse the other members and especially the mods. Besides, there is a risk of messing up and accidentally getting an inbred dragon if you don't follow our Fearless Leader's plan. It's a really good plan, we promise.

9. I haz a non-inbreed perfect Even 10th Gen Dragon on my scroll!

Epicness!! Congrats!! Now get off the Interwebs and give your cat a good belly rub! In case you don't have a cat... search for a random cat and give her a belly rub. In case you're allergic to cats... dogs will work too... maybe even budgies...

  That's ok! As long as you celebrate your EPIC 10th Gen with a belly rub everything is fine :3

The Goal

The ultimate goal of this project is to create multiple 10th generation dragons which all have the same 128 ever-so great grandparents provided by each of the members. While each of the final dragons will have different configurations of their lines, every member's dragons will be there. Members start out with two 2nd gen dragons on their own scroll (preferably with parents on their own scrolls as well) that they breed for themselves and then another member to start out the lines.

Important Notes

• In order to participate, each member must be able to produce a 3rd gen dragon from 2 second generation dragons on their scroll that are unrelated to any other dragon in the lineage. This is easiest done by having all grandparents on their scroll.
• If a member has a 2nd gen that is produced from CB dragons not on their scroll, they may still be able to use that dragon so long as they contact the original owner and make sure that no other offspring is going to be used in this project.
• There are NO naming requirements for this lineage. Many people will be using the word EPIC in the name somewhere, but this is NOT required.
• No breeder may set naming requirements for eggs they send to other members within the Project.
• NO freezing, killing, or biting any eggs, hatchlings, or dragons that are to be used within the direct lineages. This includes Zombie attempts! A failed Zombie attempt will mean the project is no longer even-gen!
• When you apply for this project, it may be useful to mention the specific lineage you'll be using to help us keep track of potential inbreeding. Please fill out and post the Red form listed at the top of this post to add your Dragons.
• Be sure to specify your timezone clearly because there are participants from all over the world. This site might help.
• Please don't hide your scroll or the eggs unless absolutely necessary. It makes it hard on your fellows to track things, check on room, etc.
• Consider activating the option "Display Username on Dragon Info Page" for your scroll. This is not required, but it makes things much easier.
• Please use any and all Forms provided here on the EPIC page and on the topic. It makes it MUCH easier to keep track of things.
• Please be patient with one another and with the mods. Remember this may take a while to complete. In the end, Kelvera is the Boss Mod and what she says GOES.

• Sign-ups for the project are now closed. No new members will be accepted. Anyone wishing to join at this point can request to be placed on a waiting list and may be added to the project at a later time if one of the members drops out.

Each of the original 64 members have been broken up into teams of 4 members each which have been given color designations. New members have now been assigned to teams as well. You'll need to remember what Team Color you've been assigned to, because it will be really really important as things progress.

Any time a Dragon grows up and you name it you may fill out the GREEN Naming form so we can add your dragon's name to the spreadsheet

Step 2 - Get your own egg for the Current Generation

Make sure YOU are able to breed or already have a 3rd gen dragon or egg that you plan on using. This can represent something you're known for or a part of something you're proud of. Make sure the mods have the lineage URL of this egg or dragon.

Fill out the RED New Egg Form (found found at the top of this post) once you decide which lineage you want to use. If you don't have a 3rd gen from this lineage yet, please wait until you do and fill out the Red form once you've bred your 3rd gen egg.

Step 3 - Contact someone else, breed them an egg for the Current Generation, and Trade

In the first round you'll need to contact someone else on the team you've been assigned to (the person above or below you usually) and arrange for them to get an egg you have bred or are going to breed for them. You give them an egg and they will give you one back. You will want to influence the egg you've gotten so it will be able to breed with the egg you got in Step 2.

Fill out the RED New Egg Form when you breed.

Fill out the BLUE trade form when you trade successfully.

Step 4 - Get your own egg for the Current Generation

After the dragon you got in step 3 grows up , just like in Step 2, you're going to need to breed yourself an egg that you'll be using later.

Fill out the Red New Egg Form.

Step 5 - Contact someone else, breed them an egg for the Current Generation, and Trade

This is just like Step 3, but this time you'll be trading with one and only one of the other two people on your team. Don't trade with the same person you traded with in Step 3 and don't trade with the same person your previous partner is planning on trading with. We know this will require some talking to get it straight, but we know you can do it! Your Team Captain will help, that's part of the reason we have Captains.

Fill out the Red Form when you breed.

Fill out the Blue trade form when you trade successfully.

Step 6 - Get your own egg for the Current Generation

Now you're able to breed yourself a 5th gen egg. Aren't you excited so far!?!

Fill out the RED New Egg Form when you breed.

Step 7 - Kelverathewinged will assign you a different team to trade with.

Using her Mod-ly powers, Kelvera will assign you a new team that you'll be breeding for and trading with once you've a proven pair of 4th Gen Dragons. If you're green, it could be blue, if your maroon, it could be goldenrod. The team that is chosen will depend on which team is at the same step you are on. Contact these 4 people and discuss amongst you who is going to trade with whom. Again, the Captains will help sort this problem out. That's part of their job.

Step 8 - Contact someone else, breed them an egg for the Current Generation, and Trade

This is just like steps 3 and 5, but you'll be doing it with one and only one of the members of another team. This single person has all of the CB dragons from their team in their line, so you will only need to trade with one of them to get all their CB's in your own lineage.

Fill out the Red Form when you breed.

Fill out the Blue trade form when you trade successfully.

Step 9 Get your own egg for the Current Generation

Is this starting to get repetitive? You bet your booties. This egg will be your shiny new 6th gen egg.

Step 10 - Repeat step 7 through Step 9 until you have a 10th generation egg!

For the Visual Learners: An Illustrated Example Of How It All Works

The list of participants is color coded. You and the three people whose names are the same color as yours will be your team for the entire project. You will do the first two trades (3rd gen and 4th gen) within that team. You will do the remainder of your trades AS a team, with other teams.

For example, how the trading would work for Team DarkViolet:

Using myself (kelvera) as an example, I will trade 3rd gens with DragonLily, then trade 4th gens with either Verilidaine or ytak. DragonLily will trade with whichever of them doesn't trade with me. Then all four of us, as Team DarkViolet, will trade 5th Gens with Team Green-each of us trades with one of them but its up to us which one. Meanwhile, all the other teams have been trading with the team next to them as well.

So then I, as part of Team DarkViolet would be assigned by the project creator (me, but lets pretend lol) to trade 6th gens with someone from Team Maroon while Team Green trades with Team Teal. Then Team DarkViolet trades 7th gens with Team Chocolate. Then 8th gens with Team Turquoise and at that point everyone has the ability to breed a 9th gen (at least once all the trades are done).

I would really like to have it revived, but I must confess I have no idea how to do this and not enough time to organize it. All I could do is contribute dragons.

There are still a lot of people around, but this project is extremely complicated, so I doubt anybody will take over...

I'm still here, with Epic Storm Force 9. Would love to finish this project.

Great idea! I'd love to see this completed, too. Haven't heard anything from Kelvera in forever . Since I have edit access to the spreadsheet, I'll note there who responds. Would any still active Captains check with their team members? Actually, would any active team members pm those who have not checked in & check their status? I have added a Check-in column on the Member list.

I think I could contact enigmus and Eowyn from team Rose.

I'm still here, I want to finish this project too.

I can't say the same for the rest of my team. Sparkdragon is the only one that I think is still active. :/

Well, obviously I am still around. I have just sent PMs to codyne and emily361 to see what their status is. I don't recall seeing either of them around lately. Waiting for answers from them.

Edited to add that I just heard from codyne, who is still around and interested in seeing this continue!

I know I would be happy to breed for multiple other teams and/or help the

remaining teams get to 9th. Once there it shouldn't be too difficult to figure out how to get to 10th w/o inbreeding
